Safety

Since 1995, Marco has been operating a construction safety program throughout all of its construction operations. Based on the principals of the "Internal Responsibility System", the program reflects an employee-employer partnership to promote best practices in safety.

Company Safety Policy

The management of this company is committed to the implementation and maintenance of a well-balanced safety program. This program is intended to prevent injury to employees, other trades, to the general public, and to prevent property damage.

All employees, including management, will be involved with the initial structure of this program as well as any ongoing documentation and future changes.

The program will include but not limited to the following:

  • Orientation of new employees on company policies.
  • Provide training on health and safety practices.
  • Inform all employees of new safety technology and regulations.
  • Enforce rules, regulations and company policies.
  • Provide information and training on the use and care of personal protective equipment.
  • Implement an "out of service" policy for faulty tools, ladders, and other devices.
  • Keep record and updates of WHIMIS sheets.
  • Investigate all reported accidents whether there was an injury or not.
  • Develop a healthy attitude to this program.
  • Management will make every effort to cooperate with employees to ensure a safe and health workplace.

The safety information in this policy does not take precedence over the Occupational Health and
Safety Act, which all employees should be familiar with.

Certificate of Recognition Program

The Marco Group of companies operates a safety program in accordance with the Certificate of
Recognition Program of the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Safety Association, the
Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association, as well as the New Brunswick Construction Safety Association. In fact, Marco was one of the first COR Certified construction firms in Newfoundland
and Labrador.

The COR Program features the following components:

  • Company Safety Policy
  • Hazard Assessment
  • Safe Work Practices and Procedures
  • Safety Rules and Discipline Policy
  • PPE Policy
  • Maintenance Policy
  • Training Policy
  • Inspections Policy
  • Investigations Policy
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee
  • Harassment Policy

It is Marco's view, however, that the COR Program only establishes a set of MINIMUM
standards for the safety operations of a construction firm. In addition to operating the
COR Certified Program on all projects, Marco also employs a full-time safety coordinator.
