This expansion is part of a seven-year, multi-phase terminal improvement plan to expand the east and west sides of the air terminal building. Marco completed the first two phases of this project: the 13 500-square-metre east-side construction of the building envelope expansion and the interior fit up of this new expansion.
The first floor of this expansion includes a relocated pre-board screening area; extended airline check-in counters; and a newly-renovated baggage screening area. It also includes a new loading dock and goods storage area. A new service road was constructed to access this area.
The second floor contains new passenger waiting areas; additional airside food & beverage facilities; and two additional gates.
The third floor extends the airport offices eastward; providing additional airline support space. It also contains a shelled-in area that will be used for future development.
As construction manager, Marco was intensely involved throughout the pre-construction process, providing input on scheduling, cost analysis, value engineering, and constructability. Marco also oversaw the development of subcontractor trade packages and prepared the prequalification criteria for subcontractors as required by the owner.
